| Further Notes: | James Martin Staines was brother of First Garda Commissioner Michael Staines. Son of Constable Edward Staines RIC and Margaret McCann. Along with his brothers he was actively involved in Republican movement as a Lieutenant in the IRA, in the 1st Battalion D Company Dublin Brigade. He was interred in Curragh Camp and escaped captivity in August 1921 while being escorted by military lorry to Rath. During his years in the Civic Guards he was staioned in County Longford. He left the Guards (date unknown) and resided at 8 Proby Square in Blackrock, Dublin. His his occupation was recorded as a 'clerk' when he died from pneumonia on 28th May 1929 at Hardwicke Hospital, North Brunswick Street, Dubin. He is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery. | ||
