John Rawl/Raal was the son of Michael Rawl (a farmer) and Bridget McGovern. Served in the 1st Battalion South Leitrim IRA Brigade during the War of Independence. He first married Barbara McGill on 9th November 1926 in Glenties, County Donegal. After Barbara Rawl died, John married Maud Angela Ahern on 16th November 1933 in Frosses Church, County Donegal. They had two sons and two daughters. Retired on 1st October 1960. Resided in Croghan, County Roscommon. Died on 25th May 1991. He is buried in Killappoge Graveyard, Croghan. |
