| Further Notes: |
On 8th April, 1952 Sergeant Cody was on duty at Dublin Road, Tullow when a close friend, and local businessman in the town, pulled up in his hackney car to talk to the Sergeant. The hackney car being driven was one on which the doors opened towards the front of the vehicle. When the car arrived beside Sergeant Cody the driver opened the door quickly and caused the handle to catch in the baton belt being worn by the Sergeant, dragging him to the ground where he banged his head very sharply resulting in the injuries that caused his death. |
