| Further Notes: | Was the First Garda/Civic Guard to be killed in the line of duty. henry Christopher Phelan was actually born on 25th December 1900*. he was the son of Patrick Phelan and Norah Austin. On 14th November, 1922 Garda Phelan went to a shop in Mullinahone, County Tipperary to purchase hurleys for a team he, and colleagues, were starting in Callan, County Kilkenny. While he was in the shop two armed men entered and, without warning, shot Garda Phelan dead He is buried with his parents in Saint Fearghal's Cemetery, Camross, County Laois. | ||
