Son of Patrick Begley (a farmer) and Bridget Hartigan. Served in the IRA from 1916 until 1922. Married Anastasia Thompson on 30th July 1930 in Trinity Without Church, Waterford City. They three daughters and two sons (one of which - Bobby Begley, served as a Garda in Wexford, having joined in 1964). Retired on 13th July 1966 and resided at Emerald Terrace in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Died on 22nd April 1979 and requested his body was donated for medical research. |
