Born in Farnham Surrey England, he was the son of Patrick and Chrsitina McNamara. His family moved to Ireland and resided in Limerick. Married Margaret Mary Kelleher on 6th October 1925 in Cobh Cathedral, Cork. Specialised in Fingerprinting while assigned to Garda Headquarters and became the first Garda expert in the field and the first to secure a conviction using fingerprint evidence. Promoted to Sergeant in March 1923 and Inspector in July 1938 before becoming a Superintendent in June 1942. Harry retired in 1961 and resided at Corbally Road Limerick. He died on 14th April 1966 at Barringtons Hospital. He is buried in Mount St. Lawrence Cemetery Limerick. |
