John Joseph Hegarty was the son of Michael Hegarty (a farmer) and Mary Doherty. Was first staioned in Ennistymon, County Clare, which was subjected to serveral attacks from the Anti-Treaty IRA during the Irish Civil War. Later transferred to Cavan Town. Married Annie Soden on 11th July 1928 at Killygarry CHurch in Cavan and as a result was transferred to Smithboro, County Monaghan. His final posting was to Scotstown in County Monaghan and spent the next 30 years there. He retired in 1965. Died in Scotstown in 1987. |
