Son of William Hayes (a Labourer) and Julia Murphy. Married Helen Tobin on 21st September 1926 in Abbeyfeale Church. Invented an engineless monoplane while assigned to the Depot. Promoted to Inspector in October 1944 and transferred to Rathfarnham. Promoted to Superintendent on 15th July 1953. Retired in ?. Their son Bill Hayes (famous physicist) went on to become President of St John's College, Oxford from 1987 to 2001. |
