Son of Edward Farrell (a Farmer) and Mary McManus. Was among the first Gardai to arrive in Tipperary Town in April 1923 and remained there until he transferred in 1930 to Birr, County Offaly. Married Mary Kate Cox on 18th September 1930 in Rooskey/Ruskey Church, County Roscommon. Spent the rest of his career in Birr until he retired on 22nd July 1966 and resided in the town on Newbridge Street. Was among 18 of the surviving 38 Civic Guard men who joined in 1922 that attended a special event held on the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the force held in Garda College in Templemore in 1992. Died on 22nd January 1996. Both his sons were Gardai: Benny Farrell and Joe Farrell. |
