Son of Patrick Conroy (A Tailor) and Mary Gilmore.
Joined the Irish Volunteers and fought in the 1916 afterwards being interred in Frongoch Camp.
He was an IRA Squad Leader during the War of Independence
Joined the Civic Guards after being recommended by Commissioner Michael Staines
During the Irish Civil War he served as a Captain in the Irish Free State Army and was stationed in the South of the Country.
Detective Sergeant Conroy died from TB while serving on 26 March 1926 at Newcastle Hospital in Wicklow. |
