| Further Notes: | Son of Peter Sharkey (a Farmer) and Bridget Hanlon. Married Margaret Timothy on on 21st April 1927 in Glenamaddy Church, County Galway. Was actively involved in the Garda Band. Completed Air Raid Precaution (A.P.R.) in 1939. Promoted to Sergeant in 1942 and finally Station Sergeant in 1948. Retired on 24th December 1962. He was the founder of the St. Paul's Benefit Society for sick and injured Gardai and their families. Resided in Vernon Drive, Clontarf, Dublin. Died on 13th October 1982. He is buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin. | ||
