Further Notes: | Often said to be the first official person to join the Civic Guard. Son of Edward McAvinia (a farmer) and Mary Anne Kiernan. He worked as a clerk of the arbitration court in Galway before joining. Married to Christina. He retired on 24th March 1947. He worked for Irish Oil and Cake Mills Ltd in Drogheda for the next 15 years. He died in 1963 |
