| Further Notes: |
Son of Michael Lynch (a Gardener) and Kate Barry. Married Molly Tynan on 24th June 1931 in Thurles Cathedral, County Tipperary. Spent 13 years stationed in Nenagh where he was the Scool Attendance Officer and and was a member of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. On 17th April 1944 Lynch was working in Nenagh Garda Barracks with Garda Denis Harrington (Reg No. 4034). At around 10 a.m. in the morning loud shots were heard in the station and Sergeant McLoughlin and Garda Greally found in the store room that Harrington shot dead and lying on the floor with the body of Garda Lynch holding a revolver beside him in a murder-suicide incident. This was the day before Lynch was due to take his Sergeants Exam. The clear reason and motivation behind the deaths is unknown as the men always got on well but appeared to have fallen out more recently. Lynch is buried in Lisboney Cemetery in Nenagh. |
