Mick King was the son of John King (a farmer) and Margaret Begley. He married Margaret O'Brien on 25th July 1925 at The Pro-Cathedral, in Dublin. She was from Drombane, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and was the daughter of a farmer, James O'Brien. Mick was stationed in Thurles at the time. He served most of his time as a guard at Portarlington, Co. Laois, where he retired on 31st May 1953, at Portarlington. He was aged 55. He had served 30 years as a guard most of that time in Portarlington. He was tall and thin, an amateur athlete and was a committee member of the local Portarlington Athletic Club. His wife Margaret died in 1952 in Portarlington. After her death Mick moved to England to live there as his two sons were settled there. lived in England at the time of his death in 1971, he had moved there to be near them. He died on the 5th June 1971 in a nursing home in Theydon Bois, Essex, England. He was aged 73. He is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery with his wife.
