Son of Jeremiah Leonard (a Shoemaker) and Kate Cotton. During the War of Independence served as an IRA Captain under Commandant Tom Barry and during the Irish Civil War as Lieutenant in the Engineer Corps of the Irish National Army from 1922 until 1924. Married Mary Carr on 1st October 1930 in Nenagh, County Tipperary. Retired on 11th July 1958. Resided in Kilrush, County Clare. Died on 31st October 1972. He is buried in New Shanakyle Cemetery, Kilrush. |
