Sean Liddy was born in Daganelly, County Clare. Son of John Liddy ( a Farmer) and Margaret Donnellan. Was the only member of the Civic Gaurd who joined that was an Elected TD in Dail Eireann. Entered The Civic Guards as Inspector in 1922. Married Anna Breen on 22 September 1922 in Dublin, with Garda Commissioner Eoin O'Duffy in attendance.Retired from An Garda Síochána in 1953. Founder and President of Garda Pensioner's Association.Died in a motor accident on 30th March 1965 at Kilmacud Road, Dublin. He is buried in Kilmacduane Cemetery, Cooraclare, County Clare. The Liddy Medal of the Garda Veterans Injury Award was set up in 1961 and given Garda members injured in the line of duty, being names after Mr. Liddy. |
