Son of Andrew Sharkey (a merchant) and Maggie O'Donnell. He was a well known Garda boxer in Ireland as an amateur Heavyweight Boxing Champion and represented the force in competitions internationally, including Berlin. Died on 29th January 1944 while serving at Monkstown Hosptial from typhoid and heart failure, having been wrongly diagnosed as suffering from influenza. He is buried in his hometown of Kincassalagh. |
